Sieva Borzak is an Italian-Russian conductor. He recently gained international recognition at the 2024 Malko Competition, being one of the six semi-finalists of the prestigious contest in Copenhagen. Following this achievement, he was invited by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra for a symphonic program. In 2025, he won the International Opera Conducting Competition – Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège.
He has studied with some of the greatest conductors, working on both operatic and symphonic repertoire: in 2022 with Riccardo Muti (Italian Opera Academy) and Daniel Oren (Monteverdi Circle), conducting Verdi’s Requiem, Puccini’s Tosca and Madama Butterfly; in 2024 with Daniele Gatti (Accademia Musicale Chigiana), conducting Don Pasquale and symphonic works by Brahms, Ravel, and Stravinsky.
Highly active in the operatic repertoire, in 2024 he made his debut at Teatro Sociale di Como (AsLiCo), conducting Turandot, which he subsequently took on tour to major Italian opera houses, including Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Grande di Brescia, Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo and Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona.
In 2023, he earned acclaim conducting the first act of Wagner’s Die Walküre (in concert form) in Rome, Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis at the Reate Festival, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at Teatro Petruzzelli, the new opera Skanderbeg at the National Opera of Tirana, and a Christmas Opera Gala at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
He made his operatic debut in 2019, at the age of 22, conducting Paisiello’s comic opera La Finta Amante in its first modern performance, at the Giovanni Paisiello Festival.
He worked as Assistant Conductor to Italian conductor Francesco Lanzillotta at Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels, 2023) on Bastarda, a project based on Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, Roberto Devereux and Elisabetta al castello di Kenilworth. He also worked as Assistant Conductor at the Macerata Opera Festival (2020/2021), on Don Giovanni, La Traviata and Aida.
Sieva Borzak is also active in the symphonic field. Since 2021, he has been Conductor in Residence of the Roma Tre Orchestra, with which he has led more than 70 symphonic concerts, covering a wide repertoire including R. Strauss’s Eine Alpensinfonie, the world premiere of Nicola Campogrande’s Symphony No. 2 “A New World”, symphonic pages from Tannhäuser and Parsifal, and Mozart’s Requiem.
He has conducted several orchestras, including the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, National Opera, Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torinio, Orchestra of Tirana, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana, Orchestra Sinfonica Rossini, Orchestra Giovanile “Luigi Cherubini”, Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, Orchestra Filarmonica Salernitana, and Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has received various awards and recognitions: in 2024 he was awarded with the Diploma of Merit by Daniele Gatti at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana; in 2023 he won the First Prize and the Orchestra Prize at the Peter Maag Conducting Competition; in 2022 he won the First Prize at the Lake Como Conducting Competition and Third Prize at the “Luigi Mancinelli” Opera Conducting Competition.
He recorded the album ‘Elegy’, released by Brilliant Classics, with Roma Tre Orchestra and saxophonist Jacopo Taddei, conducting a program of Russian music (Glazunov, Borodin, Tchaikovsky), followed by his second album ‘French Elegy’, focused on the music of Debussy, Ravel, and Saint-Saëns.
After studying Piano, Opera Singing, and Composition, he graduated with full marks and honors in Conducting under the guidance of Marcello Bufalini, at the “Alfredo Casella” Conservatory (L’Aquila).
In the 2024-25 season, he conducts Puccini’s Messa di Gloria with Roma Tre Orchestra, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Orchestra Sinfonica Brutia and makes his debut with the Orchestra del Teatro Regio di Torino. Upcoming engagements include, Così fan tutte at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège, I Puritani with Circuito Opera Lombardia (Como, Cremona, Pavia), Il Viaggio a Reims at the Rossini Opera Festival and symphonic concerts with the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, Bodensee Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Regionale Filarmonia Veneta and Roma Tre Orchestra.
